TIM FOX, Coaching Director
Tim started playing lacrosse as goalie in Long Island, New York when he was 12. He attended, made All Star Teams, and won goalie competitions at Four Star & Top Gun Lax Camps every year of Junior High & High School. Tim was invited to the Elite 150 Camp senior year. He competed in Summer, Fall, Winter, & Spring lacrosse leagues growing up, playing year round. Tim was Captain of his Connetquot HS Lax Team in 2000, when the team went to the quarterfinals in Suffolk County, NY. He played goalie at Bryant University in 2002 when they won the ECAC Championship. Tim then served as Assistant to the GM of the Long Island Lizards MLL team from 2001-2004. As Head Coach of Boys Varsity Lacrosse program at Lincoln High School from 2006-2009 and Assistant Coach 2002-2004, Tim received Sportsmanship Award in 2008 from the Officials Association for the entire state of Rhode Island. He founded and operated All Seasons Lacrosse in Providence, RI from 2006-2009, focusing on clinics, private lessons, and camps. Tim was recently named head coach of the Los Alamitos High School boys' lacrosse program, is also Head Coach of the UCI Men's Lacrosse team and coaches for BCYL. SOPHIA "FIA" ARAGON, Girls Coach
Fia started her lacrosse career on the inaugural Beach Cities Girls Lacrosse team in 2006. She continued her career at Los Alamitos High School where she was the Los Al Defensive player of the year (2011, 2012), Los Al Team Captain (2012), 1st Team All-League (2011, 2012), and 1st Team All County (2011, 2012). Coach Fia played D1 Lacrosse at Fresno State University from 2012-2016. She was named Fresno State MVP (2014, 2016), Fresno State Defensive Player of the Year (2015, 2016), Fresno State Team Captain (2016), and MPSF 2nd Team All Conference (2016). After her senior season, Coach Fia held Fresno State's all time records for games started, ground balls, caused turnovers, ground ball per game, and a single game record for most caused turnovers. She is now in her 2nd year as Los Al’s Head Girl’s Lacrosse Coach.

STERLING MCDOWELL-ASHE, Boys Coach
Sterling is from Boston, Massachusetts where he started playing lacrosse with the Metro Lacrosse youth program at the age of 11. He went on to play for Metro's varsity team for four years, and was named Captain as a Sophomore. He played college lacrosse at Greensboro College, a Division 3 school in North Carolina. He's also coached several Metro Lacrosse day and overnight camps. Sterling has done a great job coaching boys of all ages with Beach Cities. Sterling is also head coach of the Wilson High School Boys Lacrosse Program.

SOPHIA HAMPP, Girls Coach
Sophia played three years of competitive club lacrosse at UC Irvine, where she was named defensive player of the year and was chosen for League 1st Team All Stars her senior year. She graduated from UC Irvine in June with degrees in Psychology and Criminology. She is currently working as an ABA therapist for young children on the autism spectrum.

MATT CUNNIFFE, Boys Coach
Matt is from Boston, Massachusetts where he started playing lacrosse at the age of 13 in the Needham Youth Lacrosse system. He went on to play at Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury, MA. He was a four year starter and two year captain where he led the team to their first playoff berth in the program’s history. He was awarded the Coaches’ Award in 2003, and he is the first Division 1 lacrosse player to come out of the high school. He participated in the famous Bay State Summer Games in Boston on Team Metro. Matt went on to play Division 1 lacrosse at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. He lettered all four years while at Holy Cross and was awarded the Martha S. Lemley Unsung Hero Award by the team while completing his degree in Sociology. After college, Matt continued to play lacrosse for several competitive post collegiate club teams in both field and box lacrosse, and he continues to play. He has coached the JV team and helped in all aspects of the lacrosse program at his alma mater Catholic Memorial, an annually top 20 ranked team in the state. He has coached in the Medfield Youth Lacrosse Program in Medfield, MA which is the feeder program to the multiple state title winner, Medfield High School. Since 2017, he has coached lacrosseo at Long Beach Poly High School. He specializes in all aspects lacrosse from offensive concepts to defense tactics, face-off fundamentals, goalie development, and conditioning and weight training. Matt lives in Signal Hill with his wife who is a Long Beach native.

JOHN GABRIEL, Boys Coach
John was raised in West Nyack, NY, where he started playing lacrosse and soccer at an early age. John was a four year letterman in both sports, attending Clarkstown South High School. From there, John attended Onondaga CC, to sharpen his lacrosse skills and academics and transferred to New England College where he was named the school's first ever NCAA All-American in Lacrosse (2011) as well as the Commonwealth Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year and team defensive player of the year for the NEC Men's Soccer team in 2011. John moved West to pursue a Master's Degree in Education and focus his coaching skills as an assistant lacrosse coach at NCAA Division III powerhouse Whittier College and at Los Alamitos High School. John is currently a full time Physical Education teacher in Los Angeles.

KEVIN MURPHY, Boys Coach
DEREK KEES, Boys Coach
Kevin has volunteered with BCYL for many years as both a boys coach, a board member and served as BCYL President from 2008-2015. Kevin is both a US Lacrosse Certified Level 1 Coach and a Level 1 Instructor. He began playing youth lacrosse at an early age in Wilton, CT and then played as a defenseman for the eleven-time state champion high school program there. Kevin went on to play for the University of Notre Dame as defensive midfielder and close defenseman, earning three monogram letters in his four years at Notre Dame. Kevin is Vice President of US Finance for Element Materials Technology in Huntington Beach. He resides in Long Beach with his wife and children.

This is Derek's third season coaching with BCYL. He has over ten years of experience coaching lacrosse, football, soccer, and baseball. He has two boys that currently play lacrosse for BCYL and one who went through the program and now plays for Los Alamitos High School. Derek served in the United States Marine Corps from 1993 to 1997 and currently works for the United States government as a federal police officer.

SEAN PERRY, Boys Coach
Sean has been playing lacrosse for seven years as a long stick middie and close defense player; since his Junior year at Westchester High School. He attended UC Irvine and played for Coach Tim Fox all four of his years there. He has coached many Beach Cities Summer Lacrosse Camps and now also coaches lacrosse at Wilson High School. Sean is headed for Graduate School in Secondary Education and hopes to teach History at the high school level in the not too distant future. He also enjoys volunteering at the YMCA.

WILL PRYOR, Boys Coach
Will has been coaching with BCYL for over seven years. He is a US Lacrosse Certified Level 1 and Level 2 Coach. Will played high school lacrosse in Watertown, CT as goalie and defenseman at Taft School in the competitive Western New England Prep League. He also has a long history of playing and coaching ice hockey. Professionally, this is Will's 30th year with the LA County Fire Department, currently serving as Battalion Chief. His two sons play lacrosse; one with BCYL and one who went through the program and now plays for LB Poly High School.

SAL MELGOZA, Boys Coach
Sal started playing lacrosse when he was 14 as a freshman at Jordan High School in Los Angeles. He played with many teams throughout his high school career: Dinolax Inner City Team, Los Angeles All City Team, El Segundo High School and various clubs. In college, he played as a midfielder at UC Irvine, a Division 2 MCLA school. He's currently studying Criminology. Sal is also head coach for Jordan High School in Los Angeles and coaches various ages for BCYL. He's the Stick Doctor for Tim Fox's company, All Seasons Lacrosse.

GUILLERMO "GIZ" GUZMAN, Boys Coach
Coach Giz has been playing lacrosse for 14 years as a middie and face off specialist since his freshman year at The Preuss School UCSD in San Diego. Upon graduating high school, he enrolled at UC Irvine and immediately joined UCI Men’s Lacrosse Club and had the opportunity to play for Coach Fox. Giz earned his BA in Business Economics and now looks forward to coaching the next generation of lacrosse players.

THOMAS "TJ" REED, Boys Coach
TJ started playing lacrosse when he was 9 years old and learned the game from Coach Jon Fox, who has won 6 CIF Lacrosse Championships. TJ played attack and goalie at Hewes Middle School and Foothill High School. He then went on to play at Pepperdine University during his undergraduate studies, Long Beach State University during his Master's studies, and has one year left of eligibility he plans to use during his Doctoral studies at the University of San Diego. TJ tried out for the Iroquois National Indoor Lacrosse Team in 2015, and although he did not make it, he plans to try again in the future. His great grandfather, Anderson Cornelius, played lacrosse at Carlisle Boarding School alongside legendary athlete Jim Thorpe, and Anderson went on to make traditional wooden lacrosse sticks when he retired. TJ loves lacrosse and has a passion to grow the game whenever he can. He has started his own organization called Native Based Lacrosse which helps teach other Native Americans about the cultural, spiritual, and historical aspects of the game. He has been a part of two documentaries highlighting the indigenous origin of lacrosse: "Spirit Game: Pride of a Nation" and "Roots of Lacrosse." He was recently awarded the CSULB "Protector of Lacrosse" medal and hopes to make the sport his lifelong career.
